Blog Tour: Chasing Fate by Elle J. Rossi

Hi guys! Welcome to Mind Reader for my stop of Chasing Fate Tour, hosted by Dark Mind Book Tours! Stick around to read my interview with the author, Elle J. Rossi, and check out an excerpt from the book.

Chasing Fate
She is forced to kill . . . When a much-needed vacation turns into work for the third Fate, Atropos vows to sever the mortal’s lifeline quickly and get back to the sea and sand. Having her mysterious quarry offer a deal in exchange for more time is an unexpected complication. Always surrounded by darkness and death, Attie embraces the chance to toy with life and love and to help right an unjust wrong. He refuses to die . . . Dru spent months praying for death. Anger over the brutal killing of his family festered until those prayers turned to plans for revenge. Making a deal with the Death Fate was the only way to extend his lease on life. He only needed a handful of days to avenge those he lost, but within minutes of meeting Atropos he knew he’d want forever.

Excerpt:

It didn’t take long to find him. She didn’t need a name to know she had come to the right place. Her visions never lied and neither did the tug she felt toward the man in the center of the room. Crouched on the floor in front of a table, he appeared to be rifling through something. Methodic. Intense. She took a moment to observe.
A man who looked this healthy shouldn’t have Death at the door, but Attie knew all too well this sort of thing happened quite often. The doctors would note heart attack or natural causes on this death certificate. His death could not be denied. She had never felt a stronger pull, like a rope had been tethered to her core while a gang of gods pulled on the opposite end. Attie rubbed her stomach, cocked her head, and studied what she could only call prey.
Bare feet met black cotton pants. He wore no shirt, and recently cut dark hair that followed a straight line across the back of his neck glistened as though he had just come from the shower.
Her body reacted, but she instantly shut it down. She was not Chloe. She did not find mortals attractive, especially a mortal who was about to draw his last breath. Squinting, she saw the delicate fiber of his lifeline flicker in and out. Not much time left. In two steps, she closed the distance and stood over the man who had no idea a killer had entered his home.
Slowly reaching out, she skimmed her fingers over the fragile but taut thread. Though he never turned, his muscles bunched as if the strand was his spine and his skin sensitive to even the most gentle of touches. Curious about his reaction, Attie held the thread between her thumb and forefinger and slowly dragged her hand down. This time, the male shuddered like he knew death stood with him, ready to take his life essence.
Impossible.
“I won’t go yet.”
Attie paused, cocked her head. To whom did he speak? Surely not her, for she could not be seen. Not in the moments before she delivered her death sentence. More than once, humans had begged for their lives, prayed not to die. But they didn’t know they begged her, prayed to her. Even those who claimed to be atheist still prayed when death came knocking at their door. Just once, it would have been nice if someone knew who brought death. Atropos.
Attie shook her head to erase the petty thoughts and resumed the task at hand. Her job was her duty, a duty she took seriously even though accolades would never come. Unsheathing her blade from the holster secured to her thigh, she held it up to the beam of moonlight filtering through the lone window.
The blade, made from perfect, uncut diamonds, glittered like a promise. A promise indeed. Atropos and her weapon, for one was never without the other, promised death. Today was this human’s day to die.
“You are wrong. I will not die today.”

Elle J Rossi
Elle J Rossi grew up in rural Indiana surrounded by great people, a huge family and more animals than she could count. But the sites and sounds of the world beckoned, so she left her small town to escape into a creative world full of music. As a full time singer she was able to lose herself in a thousand different songs in a hundred different places. After meeting the love of her life and settling down, she yearned to find a new and fulfilling creative outlet. Overly fond of the happily ever after, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters lead her down dark and twisted paths. The very first word on the very first page sealed her fate. She'd found a new love. She'd found her escape. Now along with weaving haunting tales about the journey to love, she's creating cover art for authors around the world and loving every second of it. For fun, she cranks country music to take her back to her roots, and sings karaoke anytime she gets a chance. Her husband, two children, and a cat that rules the roost keep her company along the way and guarantee she doesn't get lost in the enchanted forest. She wouldn't have it any other way.

Where you can find Elle:

Where did you find the inspiration to write Chasing Fate?
I was incredibly fortunate to have the idea behind this story fall into my lap. The amazing author Berinn Rae, who just happens to be a fantastic friend, had one of those what-if moments. Three Fates, three stories, three different authors. I jumped out of my chair, hand waving madly, screaming PICK ME, PICK ME! Luckily she did. Then, the wonderful Rachel Firasek came aboard, and the rest is history. Working with these wicked chicks was an experience I will never forget.

Was there a scene in the book you found particularly hard to write?
Actually, yes. Without giving too much away, I knew someone very important to the story had to die. Writing that scene had me in tears. I’d grown to really love this character and seriously felt like I was actually pulling a trigger. Yes. I’m nutso like that.

Did you get inspiration from someone specific to write your characters?
I think there is always a little bit of me in all my heroines. Or, to be more exact, there are pieces of them I’d like to add to my personality. They say things I know I can’t get away with—not without having an out of body experience anyway. They get to kick butt and carry weapons. And who wouldn’t want to have a little magick in their blood?

How did you become a writer?
Writing came a little later in life to me than it does to some. I was a performer (singer) a good part of my life. I love music and I love to sing. I still do, so thank goodness for karaoke! But I’m digressing. Sorry about that. Once I settled down, I found the real world was just a little too serious for me. I absolutely had to find an escape or I think I may have gotten lost. I’ve always been an avid reader. I mentioned to my husband that I would like to try and write a book. His response: Why don’t you? A couple of shocked blinks, a shrug and then…  Yeah. Why don’t I? I can’t believe how much I continue to learn on a daily basis. And now, if I feel a little lost, at least I have some really cool characters to hang out with.

Do you have a writing process/schedule?
Anywhere and everywhere! I work a full time job, plus I’m fortunate enough to get to create cover art for some incredible authors. I also have a husband and two children who get a little upset when I ignore them for too long. All this means my schedule is chaotic and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. It works for me. I write late at night, or get up super early. If I’m waiting for water to boil on the stove, I’ve got my laptop on the kitchen table. And I always keep a notebook with me. I never know when inspiration is going to smack me upside my head!

Is there a particular place you feel more inspired to write?
Oh, yes! I love writing at my local coffee shop and the small bookstore we have in town. I can’t explain exactly what it is about those two places, but I write more, and I write better when I’m there. Perhaps it’s the scents, or maybe the eclectic people walking through the door. Whatever it is, I’ll take a lot more of it.

What is the most satisfying part of being an author?
Oh, that’s an easy one! Discussing books and characters with readers and writers. Quite simply, there’s nothing better.

What do you usually do when you're not writing?
We love to have dance parties! And we’re not cool about it either. I’m queen of “ugly dancing”. The uglier the moves, the better. It’s so exhilarating. You absolutely have to try it. Just be careful. Whiplash sneaks up on you!

Are you working on any new projects at the moment?
I’m so glad you asked. I just turned in edits for my witch paranormal. It’s a full-length romance titled The Luminary. Crimson Romance will release it on September 10th of this year. I’m wicked excited about this story. I loved the characters so much, I’ve decided two more witches need to have their story told. I’m currently writing the second book in The Brennan Coven trilogy.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to start writing?
This is a really great question. I have one piece of advice. Don’t hold back. Let every emotion and every idea you have find its way to the page. We can’t worry what others will think or if the idea is too far out there. Go for it. I guarantee you’ll blow someone away.
