This is a very exciting moment for me as I've been working on this project (with my very special guest) for quite a while now, and I can't wait to share it with you! As you can see from the banner here above, this new feature is called Haunting Wednesday, and as you can imagine, it's about... well, ghosts! Me and the awesome Lisa Rogers (author of the book I'm going to talk about in a minute) came up with this wonderful feature in honour of her non-fiction book, On Haunted Ground, which will be released on May 8th and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. Over the next few weeks Lisa will share her experiences with the paranormal world. Keep reading to know more about On Haunted Ground and this feature!
Lisa Rogers sensed that the house she bought with her husband Wes came with a ghost. But nothing prepared them for doors slamming on their own, objects flying, and the nightly appearance of a freaky green orb in their bedroom. Their two children had opposing views on the paranormal activity. While Keshia grew attached to the grandmotherly ghost who taught her not to be afraid of thunderstorms and the Native American spirit that tucked her into bed, her brother Troy wasn't quick to believe in their unearthly guests.
This amazing true story details two decades of terrifying, funny, and heartwarming paranormal encounters--the mischievous entity that imitated the voice of each family member, the spool that "came to life" to chase the kids, the shocking events that shake Wes and Troy's skepticism--and the enduring love that keeps the family together through it all.
Now, before I leave you with Lisa, I'd like to say a few more things. Today, as it's our first feature, Lisa will share with you a glossary of the most common terms in the paranormal world. We both know not everyone is familiar with the reality of this subject, so we wanted to make things easy for you. Also, questions are more than welcome! In fact, Lisa will answer all of your questions in her last post, and I will pick a winner (among everyone who asked a question during these weeks) of a mini-swag with signed items (kindly offered by Lisa & her daughter Keisha - who has a very important part in the story :P).
And now... my very special guest, Lisa Rogers!!
Hey everyone, my name is Lisa Rogers and I’m super excited to be a part of Franny’s “Haunting Wednesday” feature. Before we get too deep into this, she suggested I make a short glossary explaining some of the terms I use in On Haunted Ground. I don’t want to get too bogged down in these so I’m only going to choose a few and try to define them as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) This is when an inaudible voice is captured on an audio recording. In a true EVP, no sound is heard until the recording is played back. (Take it from me, if you capture one of these it is a freaky experience.)
Electromagnetic field (EMF) This is an area of energy that surrounds electrical devices such as power lines, electrical wiring, and appliances. Some believe that the energy of ghosts can also produce an EMF field.
Medium A person who professes to be able to communicate with spirits.
Orb An anomaly that, in theory, represents the energy of a ghost. It appears as a ball of light and is often only seen on film. This is a highly controversial subject since there are many reasonable circumstances that identify this as environmental (dust, rain, snow, dirty lens, insects, reflection, lens flare etc.). There has been no substantial proof that the balls of light are associated with 'ghosts', the dead or any paranormal behavior.
Paranormal - Above or outside the natural order of things as presently understood.
Skeptic A person who generally discounts anything paranormal. They tend only to accept rational or scientific explanations for any phenomenon.
Come back next week to find out about Lisa's experiences!

Maybe it was just our old house settling itself (it was built back in the 60s) but I used to hear odd things at night when I was alone. (I'm not a skeptic, I'm just uncertain) Has that ever happened to you?
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I've had quite a few experiences, so I am definitely not a skeptic of the paranormal. Although, my experiences have always been extremely negative and hostile.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read your book! It's going to be soon!!!
Thanks for the question Breila. Be sure and check back for my answer on the last day of the Haunting Wednesday feature.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support Emily. I'm sorry to hear that you've had negative experiences.
