Character interview: meet Trevor & Drew from the Ganzfield series

Hi everyone!
I'm here today for my first character interview. I'm so excited as these two characters come from a series I really love, Ganzfield by the amazing Kate Kaynak! For those who have read the books, the questions refer to the first two books, Minder and Adversary. Trevor and Drew are extremely busy right now, but they were nice enough to stop by for a chat.

Welcome to Mind Reader, guys. Why don't you tell us something about yourself?
Drew (a barrel-chested red-head with a ton of freckles): Whoa--cool blog name! Okay, I'm Drew McFee, and I'm a spark--that's a pyrokinetic, so if it's on fire, it's mine. And if it's not on fire, it could be--just ask. There are bunch of us at Ganzfield, and I'm related to, like, half of them.
Trevor (a tall, lanky guy with dark hair and a shy smile): I'm Trevor Laurence, and uh, I'm telekinetic. I'm the only one, though, so we don;t have a special name for it or anything.

How long have you been at Ganzfield?
Drew: Since sophomore year. All the G-positives in my family come here for a couple of years to learn how to control our abilities once we start taking dodecamine.
Trevor: I've been here a year and a half, but the past few months (blushes and ducks his head) have been... um, the most interesting.
Drew: (cracks up and rolls his eyes) That's one way to put it!

How did you feel when you first learned you were "special"?
Drew: No biggie. My dad got me tested when I was born, so I've always known I was a G-positive.
Trevor: (shakes his head) Totally different for me. I--I didn't know why I always felt like such a klutz as a kid; I mean--I didn't even need to touch something to knock it over! When Dr Williamson tracked me down--he found me through a routine search for family members who might have the G-positive trait--he thought I was probably a charm or something.
Drew: No way!! You're not nearly psychotic enough to be a charm.
(Trevor snorts)

Do you get along with the other people like you?
Drew: you mean other sparks--or G-positive in general? Sparks: yeah. But some of the others, like, oh, I dunno, the CHARMS, can be pure evil. And the minders can be scary.
Trevor: (blushes) Not all of them.
Drew: Well, your girlfriend is cool, but she's still scary. In a good way.
Trevor: There's a good way to be scary?
Drew: Yeah, well, the charms are scared of her, so that's good.
Trevor: Good point.

Sparks are "famous" for their Fireball game. If there was a Boys vs. Girls match, who do you think would win?
Trevor: (grinning) Oh, you had to ask him that!
Drew: (groans) We're so gonna win next time, Melanie's still not letting me forget it.

Have you ever been fully charmed by one of the Charms?
(Drew and Trevor both frown and sit up straighter)
Trevor: I don't want to talk about it.
Drew: It sucks. Charm ability is like mind-control on steroids. They can make someone do anything. They usually try to get a spark alone--that's one of the main reasons we hang out together when we come up to the main buildings--and they... like this one time, this guy named Victor--and you know someone with a name like Victor has GOT to become like a supervillain after college--he made me burn my own eyebrows off. I hadn't even DONE anything to him; he was just bored or something. It took a month for them to grow back!

Trevor, what was your first impression when you saw Maddie?
Trevor: (a huge smile shines right up to his eyes) Wow. Just, wow. You know when I first saw her, right? One of the charms was giving her a hard time--
Drew: You know, I met her first.
Trevor: (gives Drew an exasperated look) You mind?
Drew: Sorry, Trev.
Trevor: So this guy was giving her a hard time and she just... blasted him. Stopped him cold. I mean, she's just this tiny girl and this guy's bothering her one second and the next he's on the ground grabbing his head--and she hadn't even touched him. And I remember thinking that she was going to make things around Ganzfield really interesting.
(Drew snorts)

Drew, how do you feel about Maddie? Do you think she is good for Trevor?
Drew: Maddie's awesome. She doesn't let the charms get away with their crap. And as for the other thing? (raises an eyebrow as he looks at Trevor) Yeah. She kinda makes him--I dunno-- like he doesn't apologize for being present anymore. She makes him cool with being himself.
Trevor: Wow. That was really deep. I'm--thanks, man.
Drew: If you try to hug me, I will totally set your hair on fire.
(Trevor grins)

Another question for Drew: besides Rachel, are there any other girls you might be interested in?
(Trevor and Drew both crack up)
Trevor: Who ISN'T he interested in?
Drew: Let's see... nope, he's right; they're all good. Just not my cousins, 'cuz that'd be gross, or Maddie, 'cuz she's taken--
Trevor: Darn straight she is.
Drew: --and this guy'd ripp my arms off if I made a move on her.
Trevor: (nods) Yeah, that sounds about right.

This last question is for the both of you. You are back at Ganzfield now that the first battle has ended and you lost some of your friend. Since Isaiah knows how to find each and everyone of you, what kind of plan are you putting up to defeat him?
(Trevor and Drew look at each other)
Drew: A plan! Why didn't we think of that?
Trevor: Yeah, we should definitely look into getting one of those.

Thank you so much for your time, guys!! And bloggers, make sure you read the fantastic Ganzfield series and check the website out: Ganzfield.com

Accused (book 4 in the series will be released on August 15th!
